A Sri Lankan Wedding
Kavindhya & Shamika
Kavindhya and Shamika brought Sri Lanka to Houston. A traditional ceremony on a wooden platform over water. White fabric and greenery swaying in the breeze. Family watching from the shore as two lives became one.
They honored every ritual—the poruwa ceremony, the exchange of rings, the tying of the dhatu potha. But they did it their way, in a place that now holds their story.
This is what it looks like when tradition travels. When culture isn't performed for a camera, but lived fully in a new place. When a wedding feels like home, even thousands of miles away from where it began.
We documented it with the respect and care it deserved—the details that mattered, the moments that weren't staged, the emotion that didn't need translation.
